I have strong feelings about travel. I think it's important.
I believe that everyone with the means to travel has a responsibility to
travel. We in North America are among the most fortunate and affluent people
on earth. We cannot really appreciate our good fortune until
we spend time in other countries.
A vacation on the beach in Mexico
or the Caribbean is just that,
a vacation. We all need one once in a while.
But travel
entails more than that. Alien geographies, different languages
and customs, strange flora and fauna and most of all, the uncertainty of
events, are what comprise a trip.
From the temples of Southeast
Asia to the game
reserves of Africa, our planet
is a limitless wonderland. And we are not only allowed to go, but are welcomed
with open arms almost everywhere. Stepping off a plane in an unfamiliar
land requires a bit of courage, but the rewards are immeasurable.
We owe it to ourselves to take a chance once in a while. To step
outside of our comfort zones and see what's happening with the rest of
our planet.
