The Namibian government doesn't seem
to agree that cheetahs are an endangered species. Farmers are encouraged
to kill them as they feed on livestock. The Otjitotongwe Lodge was
established to raise money to create a safe habitat for cheetahs. There
are currently 4 'semi-domesticated' cheetahs living with the property
owner, and another 20 or so living in a 500 acre penned area. Plans are to
raise enough money to enclose over 1,000 hectares as a cheetah reserve.
I urge you to visit http://www.gateway-africa.com/otjitotongwe/index.html
and read about one mans attempt to save them.
